The work in this exhibition is the latest edition of an ongoing collaboration between the AHRC funded research project ‘Transnationalizing Modern Languages’ and two secondary schools in Edinburgh: Drummond Community High School and Castlebrae Community High School. Over the last three years pupils at both schools have been exploring issues of translation in different artistic media. We see translation as a creative and transformative process which allows new meanings to be created and forms reinvented. Superficially, the bodies of work from each school have little in common, yet they are both examples of the process of cultural translation through which the artists have found ways of finding a personal voice as they move between forms.
