On October 3 2013, more than 360 people died in a shipwreck as they tried to reach Europe. The catastrophe drew the world’s attention to the ongoing loss of lives in the Mediterranean.

Two years on from the disaster, Antonino Maggiore’s documentary ”3 October 2013-3 October 2015” offers an alternative interpretation of the event and of the political reactions to it.

Produced to commemorate the second anniversary of the shipwreck, this is the first screening of the film outside Italy.

The screening will be followed by a discussion led by Emily Davies (Undergraduate in Italian and Modern History) and Jacopo Colombini (PhD candidate in Italian), both of whom are working on Lampedusa.

The event is organised by Byre World (School of Modern Languages), and free and open to all.
